Geurts Charles-Michel (EU Commission, Head of Division, European External Action Service)

 

Short CV:

After completing his law degrees (Namur, Louvain-La-Neuve, Firenze),
Charles-Michel Geurts joined the European Commission in 1991, where he
worked in the Secretariat-General as a coordinator on various
institutional issues as well as in the 'greffe' (secretariat to Commission
and Heads of Cabinet meetings). From 1999 to 2004, he worked at the
European Commission Delegation to Hungary, contributing to Hungary's EU
accession process first as Head of the Contracts and Finance section, and
then as Political Counsellor.  From 2004 to 2008, he was posted as First
Counsellor to the EC Delegation to the United Nations in New York having
in charge the political, peace and security portfolio.  Charles-Michel has
been working on Human Rights as Deputy Head of Division since 2008 in the
European Commission and in the European External Action Service. A
visiting professor at the College of Europe in Bruges, he has published
articles on EU institutional, accession, and multilateral human rights
issues.
